Equipment

  • – Large skillet
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Large pot for pasta
  • Strainer
  • Mixing spoon or spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (85/15 or 90/10)
  • 2 cups uncooked pasta (elbow or rotini)
  • 0.5 cup diced onion
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.33 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp mustard
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Boil pasta in salted water until just al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef and diced onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in garlic powder, ketchup, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  • Add cooked pasta to the skillet mixture and stir until well combined.
  • Spread half the beef mixture into the baking dish. Top with half the shredded cheese. Repeat layers.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 15 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  • Let sit for 5 minutes before serving. Optional: top with diced pickles or shredded lettuce.

Notes

Make it low carb by swapping pasta for cauliflower rice or cabbage. Add diced pickles, bacon, or shredded lettuce after baking for a Big Mac twist. Freezes well, wrap tightly and bake from frozen when needed.
