Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (for glaze)
  • 2-3 tbsp milk or cream (for glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)
  • 1 pinch salt (for glaze)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  • In another bowl, mix eggs, melted butter, maple syrup, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  • Spread batter evenly into prepared pan.
  • Bake for 18–20 minutes until golden and set.
  • Whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  • Pour glaze over slightly cooled bars and spread evenly.
  • Let glaze set for 30 minutes before slicing into bars.

Notes

Do not overmix batter to keep bars tender. Bake until a toothpick shows moist crumbs. Glaze while slightly warm for best absorption. Store in airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
