Equipment

  • glass jar or cold brew maker
  • fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  • saucepan
  • teapot or infuser
  • Measuring cups

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coarsely ground coffee beans
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 cups water (for chai)
  • 2 black tea bags
  • 5 cardamom pods
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 1 inch fresh ginger
  • 3 black peppercorns
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (optional)

Instructions

  • Combine coffee grounds, water, vanilla bean, and cinnamon sticks in a jar. Stir and refrigerate for 16–18 hours.
  • Strain the cold brew through a fine mesh or cheesecloth and store in the refrigerator.
  • Dilute cold brew with water or almond milk before serving.
  • For chai: bring water to a simmer, add spices, and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, add tea, and steep for 3–5 minutes.
  • Strain into a cup and add unsweetened milk if desired.
  • Repeat similar brewing methods using herbs, citrus, or fruits to create variations like hibiscus, green tea, or cucumber mint infusions.

Notes

Adjust brewing times to control bitterness. Use fresh herbs and whole spices for the best flavor. Cold brewing creates naturally sweeter drinks. Store concentrates in the refrigerator and dilute before serving if needed.
