Equipment

  • Mixing bowls

  • whisk
  • baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • spatula
  • wire cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips.
  • Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden and centers are soft.
  • Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Chilling the dough for up to 24 hours enhances flavor and texture. Use room temperature butter and eggs for best results. Do not overbake—cookies should look slightly underdone in the center. Freeze dough or baked cookies up to 3 months.
